Şivan Perwer – Portrait

A Life Dedicated to Music and Freedom

Born in 1955 in Sorê (Viranşehir), in the Urfa province of Turkey, Şivan Perwer showed his extraordinary musical gift from a very young age. Growing up in a Kurdish family, he was immersed in the rich oral traditions, folk songs, and poetry of his people.

In the 1970s, as the Turkish government intensified its suppression of Kurdish culture and language, Şivan was forced into exile. He settled in Europe, where he continued to create music that gave voice to the Kurdish struggle for identity, peace, and human rights.

Today, Şivan Perwer is more than a musician — he is a living symbol of Kurdish resilience, a bridge between cultures, and an ambassador of peace whose voice has touched millions around the world.
